Buying a Fender Stratocaster Electric Guitar

Mar 05 2009

When it comes to electric guitars, The Fender Stratocaster is quite simply one of the best.  It has been a favorite amongst guitar players for years and will continue to be a favorite in the years to come.  You can thank one man for the brilliant design and sound that comes from the strat. Leo Fender.

The Fender Stratocaster was born out of a need to amplify a guitar while eliminating feedback.  He succeeded and created a style of guitar that made history.  Not bad for an accountant – radio technician.  The Fender Stratocaster electric guitar was born in 1953.  Leo Fender was already producing the Telecaster and he wanted to include everything that made his Telecaster a success and then some.  All of the bridges were fully adjustable and the Headstock allowed the strings less friction which helped to keep the guitar in tune. Leo reduced the weight by creating a cutaway that also allowed easy access to the higher frets.  He experimented with many styles and sizes of pickups before he made his final decision.  He also addressed the issue of every other guitar digging into your ribs. Leo made a guitar that was comfortable and sounded incredible. He was like a mad scientist creating his very own Frankenstein, but it would be years before anyone screamed IT’S ALIVE! IT’S ALIVE. Musicians like Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton showed everyone all over the world the true power on the Fender Stratocaster Electric guitar.

You can walk into any music store and see several Fender strats hanging on the walls. A variety of colors is always available so no matter what you color preference, the Fender Strat has got you covered. When you are buying a Fender Stratocaster don’t let the color be your only deciding factor. Look at all of them, then when you see one that speaks to you, pick it up. Notice the contour of the neck, the weight of the instrument. Gently wrap you hand around the neck, notice the way it feels. Play it unplugged. Does it sounds and feel right to you? If not then move on to the next one that catches your eye and start over. If it feels right then plug it in and listen as the Fender Stratocaster comes to life.

Slide the pickup selector into the neck position and select a nice clean channel. The sound you hear, can not be heard anywhere else. It is unmistakably beautiful. The sound of a classic. Now slide the pickup selector down to the bridge position and turn on some distortion and crank it to eleven. Now you can feel the power that is generated from a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar and it feels good. Listen to the sustain that can only be heard on a Strat. If you are liking what you hear, slide the pickup selector back into the neck postion and play some lead. That sound is undeniably one of the best any guitar can make!
